General Information

The Kyrgyz are one of the last truly nomadic peoples and 130 years of Communist and Tsarist rule have not quenched their spirit. Horses and horsemanship run in the blood and Kyrgyz children learn to ride horses before they can walk. Their horses are specially bred for riding and load carrying on mountain paths and are extremely sure-footed. They are famous for their quiet disposition and endurance, and will carry you easily across the mountains, valleys and glaciers of Kyrgyzstan. On horseback you will experience the wilderness and beauty of Kyrgyzstan first hand, and feel the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Kyrgyz people in their natural environment. Additionally, your experienced guides will be on hand at all times to help you understand your hosts and guarantee your safety. The tours skirt along the shores of Lakes Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul, as well as others in the Suusamyr area.

The guides and grooms accompanying you on horseback treks have a wealth of knowledge and have been riding horses since before they could walk!

For our tours we can provide either a ‘nomad saddle’, which is wider than European saddles, or a ‘cavalry saddle’ — a Russian saddle. For carrying your equipment and luggage we use special bags, which are easily attached to a saddle.

Guides

Our guides have been trained to Western standards and had a probationary period in the «Mecca” of trekking — Nepal. Having all the necessary knowledge, they will readily tell you about the geography, flora and fauna of Kyrgyzstan, adding an educational elemeny to an exciting tour.

For groups of trekkers we provide catering tents with tables and chairs. Using a catering tent makes it possible for you to feel as if you are in your favourite dining room whilst being in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. To make your trek more comfortable we offer toilet and shower tents. Our team will arrange a toilet tent and dig a simple latrine. Hot water is provided twice a day for washing. To help you sleep more comfortably we provide solid waterproof lightweight mattresses, 1.0 cm thick, which are easy to roll up and carry in a rucksack.

Cooks

Our cooks have been specially trained to provide our clients with a varied and balanced diet. Throughout the trek, guests receive hot food. Vegetables and fruit are an inseparable part of the daily diet. Special dietary requirements can normally be provided, especially if you inform us beforehand. Following the hygiene and sanitary norms are paramount for our cooks.

Porterage

Where possible we provide porters and baggage transport during treks, for your convenience. You just need to decide what you will carry during the day and the rest of your gear will be delivered safely to your camping place on time.

Equipment

We supply light, comfortable double skin tents made by RED FOX (a Russian sports equipment firm), which are ideal for trekking, hiking and biking.
